(11.06.) Non-Lorentzian Supergravity from Matrix Theory

Matrix theory provides a way to analyze how (quantum) gravity can emerge from a quantum mechanical system without gravity, complementary to the AdS/CFT correspondence. In this talk, I will explain how the decoupling limits leading to matrix theories on D-branes in string theory give rise to non-Lorentzian spacetime geometries. I will then describe the dynamics of the associated non-Lorentzian supergravity and its string-theoretic origin. Finally, I will discuss the role that such a novel supergravity plays in the context of holography and its further implications.
